Barley Straw Treats Green String Algae in Backyard Koi Ponds.
Using Barley Straw is a simple and efficient method to keep backyard koi ponds clear and clean all year long. Since the middle ages farmers have known of the benefits of Straw and used it to keep ponds clear.
To best observe the benefits of Barley Straw it should be used continuously throughout the year in conjunction with our Clear Pond BSL and Clear Pond Dry Formula, which can be used year round. Treatment with our Barley Straw can be started at any time.
According to the CAPM, when barley straw is put into pond water, its cellular structure starts to break down or decompose aided by a mixture of pond water, light and oxygen, that is why barley works best when floating near the water surface. A Microbial activity process drives this breakdown or decomposition. It is during this process that chemicals are released which inhibit the growth of green algae & string algae.
Choose between: Barley Pads, 3 Pack, Snip-Its, for small ponds and backyard water features & New Lavender/Barley blend. When Barley Straw is blended with lavender stalks it tends to be more effective in keeping troubled ponds clear and clean (requires pumped circulating water), and Pond Strips supplied in 33 rolls treat ponds up to ¼ acre each. Pads are 7 square each and treat up to 700 gal. of koi & fish pond water. Each Pond Pad or Roll is good for use for up to four months. Pads are in packs of three.
